NCCD

Otherwise known as NCCD this disease is a genetic disease affecting the beagle, which results in neurological signs very early on in a puppy’s life-as soon as they start walking. The disease is not treatable and although there are some beagles, which are able to cope many, are euthanized, as they are unable to walk normally...

Lafora

Lafora Disease is reported in Beagles, Miniature Wire Haired Dachsunds, Bassets and people. It is caused by a defect in the gene EPM2A which codes for glycogen phosphatase laforin or the EPM2B gene coding for Ubiquitin E3 ligase malin. In dogs the defect is in the EPM2B gene and there is a massive expansion of the gene with multiple repeats of part of it....

IGS

This year I was made aware of a genetic condition, which has been reported in Beagles. The condition is called Imerslund-Grasbeck Syndrome or IGS. IGS has also been reported in Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Giant Schnauzers and Humans.This disease is concerned with Vitamin B12....
